This is a delayed book haul of my trip to what has now become a favourite bookstore or rather the only second hand bookstore that I frequent. They are just called simply that – The Second Hand Bookstore. I’ve been lucky enough to get some of my most favourite books there for my bookish friends and sometimes, for myself copies of books I had long been desiring.

This trip wasn’t planned because on the day, I left the house with the intention of going to the Strubensvalley Library which is right behind the bookstore. But the library was experiencing some load-shedding and so they had closed early.

I normally spend a long time in the shop, like an hour or more without realizing it. So I was very happy to actually get the books I did before the hour actually passed. Here’s my lucky finds:

The Woman Next Door by Yewande Omotoso

I’ve always wanted to get myself a copy. I’ve loved Yewande from the time she released Bom Boy, not having even read it. I have since bought myself a copy this year after making a trip to another place I’m going to write about soon… Bom Boy is now included into the now 13 books I’d like to read by end of 2020 on my Good Reads Challenge, check it out here.

The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy

I mean it’s Arundhati Roy. Need I say more?

A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

Because I hardly ever pick up your “self-help” books, that’s a story for another post. And because last year I decided that I would read a non-fiction book for every fiction book I picked up and finished. Here’s to hoping this is one of the books I pick up this year out of the normal books I’m used to.

The Theory of Flight by Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu

‘On the third of September, not so long ago, something truly wondrous happened on the Beauford Farm and Estate. At the moment of her death, Imogen Zula Nyoni – Genie – was seen to fly away on a giant pair of silver wings …’

Just for the above extract – I am so looking forward to indulge. And for the fact that the reviews on Good Reads are in the 5 Stars region – it’s going to be a delight to read it.

Here’s another previous haul I got from the same store a couple of months ago – tell me on the post if you ever get this lucky.

If you know of other stores – please share them. Here’s to an awesome year of reading books, old and new, and pre-loved books all the same.
