Any book loving; book event attending bookworm will tell you that the fun thing about attending book festivals, book launches and the like is the taking pictures part. I’m that kind of bookworm and liker of things! No seriously, I am! Besides – it’s like an ice-breaker of sorts taking a pic with your long time favourite author.

So last week was a great opportunity for me to go into the Bookamoso archives and look at old pictures of myself and authors when Puleng Hopper also known as Bookish Mamzo asked her followers on Twitter if they could share a picture of themselves and an author, followed by a title of a book they have written. I obliged – but I took to the extremes by sharing over 20 pictures of women authors because August = WOMEN’s MONTH! I went in on it!

I shared pictures from events such as Abantu Book Festival, which I’ve attended 2 years in a row so you can imagine the amount of pictures I have. I also shared pictures from the SA Book Fair which happens in 9 days (Get your tickets here). Through Puleng’s request I payed homage to women authors because they have truly shaped my way of thinking, the way I see myself and the way in which I relate to the world. See Puleng’s thread here.

Robert Frank says “There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment”. This is why I document the moments I spend at all book events – to capture all the humanity.

Follow the link here to see the Twitter thread I shared – I have also pinned it on both my accounts. Perhaps you could share your own favourite pictures which you’ve taken with authors. Let’s have fun with the authors whenever they are accessible to us at these events. It makes for great memories.
