Alice Walker is a gem of an author. She captured the life, hard times, the good times and spirit of Cellie perfectly so till the very end. Having read this book in my teens – then followed it up with the movie as I grew older, the book remains my most favourite ever.

Fast forward to late 2017 and there’s an announcement that The Color Purple play is coming to SA in Feb 2018! I was besides myself with excitement! Only to find out that the bookish people I’ve come to love and know through attending some events as Bookamoso Book Club also loved the book enough to also go as crazy as I was! So we have decided we are watching the play this week! I cannot wait for Thursday! I even re-read the book in preparation of a Bookish-Theatre Evening.
